November 27, 2024

A Ukrainian studies lecture for students of the Junior Diplomatic Academy explored the rich diversity of Ukraine’s intangible cultural heritage, including traditions, rituals, folk crafts, and folklore, all of which play a vital role in shaping national identity.

The session also addressed the importance of preserving cultural heritage and its significance for future generations.

The interactive lecture became an important step in expanding students’ understanding of Ukrainian culture and history, helping them better appreciate the role of cultural heritage in the context of the modern challenges Ukraine faces today.

For Ukraine’s future generation, especially those who aspire to become diplomats, this knowledge is essential. Cultural heritage shapes national identity and serves as a foundation for building mutual understanding with other nations. Preserving and promoting our traditions, language, and cultural values plays an important role in strengthening Ukraine’s positive image on the international stage.

Students of the Junior Diplomatic Academy also visited the exhibition Paintings That Never Existed, dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holodomor. The exhibition features works from a collection assembled by philanthropist Morgan Williams.

Through these artworks, students gained a deeper understanding of the tragic history of the Holodomor, the man made famine that claimed millions of Ukrainian lives. The visit became a powerful emotional experience, reinforcing the importance of preserving the memory of this tragedy.

According to Oksana Dobrovolska, Director of the Kyiv Palace of Children and Youth, “No matter what career path young people choose in the future, a strong understanding of their country’s history and culture will help them represent Ukraine more effectively on the global stage. It will enable them to connect with peers, advocate for Ukraine’s interests, and contribute to building international cooperation with youth from around the world.”
