February 20, 2025

The Junior Diplomatic Academy continues to introduce students to key aspects of communication essential for a successful career in diplomacy. The latest session was dedicated to International Mother Language Day and highlighted the importance of language culture in diplomatic practice.

Participants explored the role of their native language in negotiations, diplomatic protocol, and public speaking. They received practical guidance on professional communication, including how to present persuasive arguments, avoid common language mistakes, and adapt their communication style to different situations.

Particular attention was given to how language influences trust and the overall effectiveness of communication.

Students also tested their Ukrainian language skills through a team based quiz. Working in groups, they analyzed responses and made quick decisions. The questions covered spelling, stylistics, phraseology, and the nuances of professional communication.

This format not only helped assess their knowledge, but also strengthened their ability to analyze information quickly, build arguments, and collaborate effectively, all of which are essential skills for future diplomats.

Rita Kosiak, Head of the Junior Diplomatic Academy, emphasized that a diplomat must not only speak foreign languages, but also have a strong command of their native language. It is the native language that shapes the ability to express ideas clearly, build strong arguments, and persuade, all of which are essential skills in negotiations and public speaking.

A high level of language culture not only enhances effective communication, but also enables individuals to represent their country with dignity on the international stage.
