Cross-cultural Insights into Diplomatic and Business Etiquette: what students of the Junior Diplomatic Academy explored

How do diplomacy and etiquette intersect? Why is it essential to understand cross-cultural business communication? These questions were addressed in the Junior Diplomatic Academy session “Cross-Cultural Diplomatic and Business Etiquette in a Globalized World.” The lecture was presented by Vyacheslav Hryhorovych Tsivaty, Associate Professor and Honored Education Worker of Ukraine at the Department of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Students explored the finer points of table etiquette, including proper napkin use, dining behavior, and differences between casual and formal settings. The session also covered exchanging business cards, the art of handshakes, formal greetings, and selecting appropriate attire for diplomatic events, respecting the customs of the host country.

The session also covered key elements of diplomatic protocol, such as how ambassadors present agréments and letters of credence. The lecturer highlighted historical examples to show the role of etiquette in shaping international relations.

Rita Kosyak, Head of the Junior Diplomatic Academy, highlighted that understanding diplomatic etiquette equips future professionals to navigate international settings with confidence, respect cultural traditions, and project a polished professional image.

Students of the Academy were captivated by the lecture, gaining both new insights and hands-on experience applying what they learned. Attendees noted that the topic was engaging and the session was delivered in a professional, interactive, and highly informative way.
