Junior Diplomatic Academy session: “Mastering Self-Presentation and Public Speaking Skills”

April 17, 2025

Within the Junior Diplomatic Academy program, students attended a workshop on “Self-Presentation and Public Speaking,” conducted by Alexander Sudarkin, lecturer at MIM Business School and MBA Program Director. The session focused on developing a crucial skill for aspiring diplomats: confidently and effectively presenting oneself in any context while keeping the audience engaged.

The participants explored how to make a strong and memorable impression quickly, paying attention to the crucial first seconds of any interaction, and understanding how appearance, posture, voice, and gestures enhance their message. Alexander presented a straightforward but powerful framework called the “Self-Presentation Triangle,” designed to help structure personal introductions so they are both persuasive and genuine. This model provided the foundation for hands-on practice that followed.

In a friendly and informal setting, participants practiced crafting their own presentations, shared them with peers, and honed their ability to choose clear and effective wording while keeping the audience engaged. The session focused not only on content but also on public speaking techniques — structuring a talk, interacting with listeners, and maintaining attention. Broader tips were covered as well, including managing nerves, avoiding common pitfalls, and presenting ideas with confidence and clarity.

Participants described the session as engaging, practical, and full of valuable insights. Concepts that initially seemed abstract or challenging were made clear and easy to practice. They particularly valued being able to apply what they learned right away, in a supportive environment, receiving constructive feedback without fear of errors.
