Teaching financial literacy to students of the Junior Diplomatic Academy

May 8, 2025

As part of the Junior Diplomatic Academy’s program, students attended an engaging session with Irina Vorobey, branch manager at PrivatBank, focusing on financial literacy — an essential skill for navigating today’s world.

Ms. Irina kicked off the session with a presentation on how a bank branch works. Students viewed a video that explained the branch’s internal structure, the roles of different departments, and how customers are served.

During the session, students learned about currency exchange, how to recognize old and new banknotes, and the difference between loans and leasing. They also discussed which personal information should always remain private and common scams that bank customers should watch out for.

The session also focused on taxes, savings, salaries, and daily financial choices that shape responsible money management. Concepts were explained in a simple, relatable way, prompting active discussions. Students asked questions, shared personal examples, and showed genuine engagement.

Because of an air raid alert, part of the session took place in a shelter, allowing the discussion to continue safely. Even under these conditions, the atmosphere stayed friendly and engaging.

At the conclusion, Ms. Iryna rewarded the most active and attentive students with bank-branded souvenirs as a special token of appreciation.

Rita Kosyak, director of the Junior Diplomatic Academy, emphasized that these sessions are valuable for young people, as they help them understand financial matters, make thoughtful decisions, and cultivate a responsible approach to managing their money.
